Crowned Lemur in a pipe
This giant PVC joint acts as a hiding spot for the crowned lemurs. It's pretty cute when they peak out of them.

Sleeping Koala
The sleeping koala at the zoo. I think they sleep most of the time because of the poor nutritional value of eucalpytus leaves.

Lemurs and Marsupials at the Metroparks Zoo

1 December 2014

During my last couple of visits to the zoo, I was able to get some nice shots of some lemurs and marsupials.

The lemurs I was able to photograph were the crowned lemur and the red ruffed lemur. The crowned lemurs had just finished being fed and were starting to run around on the branches and hiding spots in their enclosure. The red ruffed lemurs were lounging on their branches. I didn't get any good shots of the ring tailed lemurs, but I like these guys. They have nice coloring and made eye contact.

The marsupials are hard to photograph. They are usually asleep or trying to stay as far away from the people as possible. I don't think I've ever seen the Koala at our zoo awake. The kangaroos and wallabies are in a fairly open enclosure. The only thing separating you from them is a rope. But they never hang out by the ropes. They usually spend much of their time by the chain link fences. Since I don't have a telephoto lens yet, I try to get as close as possible to them which is why this male kangaroo has fence links in front of its face.
