Hand Feeding Chickadees and Nuthatches
One of my pass times in the winter months is hand feeding our native birds. The easiest bird to get to hand feed in northeast Ohio is the black capped chickadee. These small birds are corageous and inquisitive. If you have peanuts or sunflower seeds, they'll probably come in to investigate.
Nuthatches and titmice are also known to hand feed but they are more cautious than chickadees. In the year or so that I have been hand feeding birds, I've only gotten a nuthatch to land and take food from my hand once. The titmice are even more reserved. I know they will hand feed, but the ones in my area haven't built up the nerve to do it yet.
