Nikon 105mm f2.8g Macro Lens
I've been agonizing over what lens to get for months. I've been vascilating between getting a widea angle prime or a telephoto prime. I decided to go with the macro lens because if fits the bill as a short telephoto. I often wish I had just a little more reach than the 50mm provides. This also has the added benefit of being able to focus very close so I can get some interesting shots of things around the house while the weather sucks. When it warms up, I can use if for birds that will allow me to get close and animals at the zoo.
Here are a couple of sample shots. One is of a China fir cone from my pine cone collection. I collect pine cones because I think it's fascinating to see the morphology of the cones. They all do the same thing: Hold seeds until the right time to release them, but they do it in a huge variety of ways. The other is just my 50mm lens. It's the lens I have used for the vast majority of the photos on my blog. It has served me well and will continue to do so when the macro lens is not approperiate. My next aquisition will be some sort of wide angle prime, I'm just not sure what focal length that will be.
