Getting Frustrated with Search Engines

1 February 2013

I have mentioned my quotation website on here a few times. I've been working on it for over a year now and we are not getting ranked very well by any search engines. I know the major players have found us. Google has crawled our pages over 4000 times in the last week, but any basic search like, "Thomas Jefferson Quotes" does not put us anywhwere near the top fo the results. I don't even kow what page we show up on in Google. I usually give up after page 30 of results and I know that nobody is going to go that deep into their search results to find a Thomas Jefferson quotation. Bing and Yahoo are no better.

I'm playing by the rules. I'm not spamming my keywords. I'm not hiding any content from users or search engine bots. What the page description says is on the page is on the page. My site's attractive, easy to navigate, everything is laid out clearly, and the ads are done tastefully. The silence is deafening. What's worse is there are thousands of mediocre quotation websites that rank ahead of us. Some of them are just WordPress blogs with lists of quotes and so many ads you really have to focus intensely to find the quotes on the page. Some of them aren't even quotes websites. They are news articles that just happen to have a quote! I wouldn't care so much if I hadn't poured my heart and sould into creating this website. But it bugs the SHIT out of me!

I think I'm just going to put the quote website on the back burner for awhile. We have tons of content, we just need to improve our ranking. I'd like to get more work done on

Summary

I have such a love hate relationship with Google right now, it's not even funny. Ok it's a little funny, but not much.
