Using My Server for Science!
I have decided that instead of letting my home server just run at idle for days on end, I would use some of those processing cycles to contribute to some scientific research. The first project I have tried is Miky Way@home which is working on building an accurate computer model of the Milky Way galaxy.
I'm also looking into the Folding@Home project. This project is for modeling how protein molecules fold and can help with the understanding and treatment of diseases. I have a few old computers laying around and I'm thinking about bringing them back to life with Linux and then letting them crunch numbers for scientific research until they die.
